About us

Where we live

Kirk Ella is on the north bank of the Humber and west of Kingston-upon-Hull in the Diocese of York.  Most of us live in the village, within walking distance of St Andrew’s, but some members of the church family come from central Hull, Swanland, Walkington and Willerby or one of the other nearby villages.

Our stories

The church family is a mixture of old hands and new arrivals.  The majority of the people that you see around you on a Sunday have joined St Andrew’s within the last ten years.  Each month, for several years now, we have seen a new individual, or couple, or family, making St Andrew’s their spiritual home.

Some are seeking to recover their faith after losing touch with God over the years, others are experiencing God’s forgiveness for the first time as they are brand new to Christianity, others are struggling with loneliness or enduring suffering, some have been following Jesus Christ for many decades.   Like most extended families, we’re a mixture, quite different from each other, but you’ll find that there’s almost certainly someone else who is similar to you!

From time to time on a Sunday morning we invite someone to tell us their story.  It’s a privilege to hear of God’s kindness to so many different people, through tough times as well as through periods of gladness.  It’s reassuring to know that whatever our own particular story, God’s kindness is always available.

The first people you meet as you come through the door are not on the payroll.  They will be pleased to see you, and will show you to a seat.  You can sit anywhere you like!
